FICCI FRAMES: The story so far…

More than a decade ago, the first meeting of the freshly formed FICCI Entertainment Committee took place on December 1st 1998 at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai. An idea was born which crystallized in 1999 when the first FICCI FRAMES, the only one of its kind in Asia, took place in Mumbai. Soon, FRAMES became a force to be reckoned with, evolving into a multi-faceted and three-day long convention covering the entire gamut of Media & Entertainment. FRAMES grew along with the Indian Media & Entertainment sector and is now firmly lodged as an event which is for, of and by the industry and still remains Asia’s largest convention on the business of entertainment. To all those stalwarts who helped us conceive and steer forth FRAMES and consequently the entertainment industry, we express our sincere and heartfelt thanks.

The Indian Media & Entertainment industry is truly hitting new milestones and stepping into a new matured phase. The sector is growing at a fantastic rate of 18% CAGR, outperforming the Indian economy with a truly blockbuster performance. FICCI has been cheerleading the potential of this sector for the last ten years. The content business in India is likely to generate over $50 million in the next two years. This growth is expected to come from the overseas market. India is fast emerging as an outsourcing hub for production/post-production in animation/gaming and visual effects.

FRAMES, throughout its inception, has always been inaugurated by the Hon’ble Indian Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.

During the past nine years, we have brought numerous international speakers and companies to FRAMES with the aim of infusing global best practices into this sector. The reverse process has just begun with our showbiz companies increasingly tapping global opportunity without disturbing domestic growth. We are at the top in the radar of global entertainment giants.

FRAMES 2009 will be held from 17th – 19th February 2009 at Mumbai, India. As in previous years, we expect nearly 2000 Indian and 800 foreign delegates encompassing the entire universe of media and entertainment to attend this global convention. Like always, we will have focused sessions covering the entire gamut of Media & Entertainment like Films, Broadcast (TV & Radio), Digital Entertainment, Animation, Gaming, Visual Effects, etc. over a period of three days. All sessions would be addressed by International and Indian industry stalwarts and thought leaders.

During the three magical days of FRAMES, the venue of the event turns into a vibrant, pulsating and colorful marketplace showcasing products and services of our leading media and entertainment conglomerates, exclusive speakers’ VIP lounge and a state of the art media lounge. There are networking lunches, dinners and cocktails where many important deals are initiated. The entertainment evenings are the cynosure of all eyes. During FRAMES, BAF (Best Animated Frames) Awards are given out, only one of its kind in India recognizing talent in animation.  Each year, the FICCI Living Legend Awards felicitate Indian cine-stars who have changed the history of Indian cinema with their talent and contribution.

Every year PriceWaterhouseCoopers and FICCI jointly release India’s most definitive report on the Indian Media and Entertainment Industry at FRAMES. This year the much-awaited Tenth Report will analyse the industry’s decade-long growth.
